As one of the national key universities listed in “Project 211”, Fuzhou University wasco-sponsored by the Fujian Government and the Ministry of Education of PRC.Founded in 1958, the university has now developed into a key comprehensiveuniversity, giving priority to engineering courses and also enjoying areputation for excellence in fields including sciences, engineering, economics,management, liberal arts, law, arts and design, etc.

Fuzhou University now consists of several campuses includingQishan ,Yishan and Tongpan campuses in Fuzhou, Jimei and Gulangyu campuses inXiamen, and Jinjiang and Quangang campuses in Quanzhou, covering an area ofover 330 hectares. Qishan campus, the base for the university's academicactivities, is located in the University Town in Fuzhou, with a total floorarea of 1.23 million square meters and athletic space over 140,000 squaremeters. The University’s fixed assets totaled RMB 3.3 billion, of which1 billion are research and instructional facilities. FZU Library collectionscontain 3.22 million volumes and 2.27 million e-books. The network centersponsored the University Information Technology Office functions as the mainnode of national educational and scientific computer network in Fuzhou.

Fuzhou University is comprised of 19 schools and colleges focusingon full-time undergraduate and graduate education, as well as 1 affiliatedcollege. FZU now has 1 national key discipline, 1 national (nurturing)discipline , 5 provincial outstanding discipline innovation platforms, 6provincial distinctive key disciplines, and 26 provincial key disciplines. Itnow has its disciplines of chemistry, engineering and materials science listedin the global top 1% on the Thomson Reuters’ Essential ScienceIndicators (ESI) ranking. It offers 11 post-doctoral research stations, 10doctoral degree programs in first-level disciplines, 3 in second-leveldisciplines (not including first-level disciplines); 36 master’s degree programs in first-level disciplines, 7 in second-leveldisciplines (not including first-level disciplines); degree-awarding powers for12 professional degrees (with Master of Engineering in 23 engineeringbranches); 78 undergraduate majors.

The University has 3,170 faculty and staff, of which 1,996 arefull-time faculty, with 6 members of Chinese Academy of Sciences or ChineseAcademy of Engineering (with 5 of them members of both institutes), one memberof International Eurasian Academy of Sciences, one member of Royal NetherlandsAcademy of Arts and Sciences, one nominated as National OutstandingProfessional and Technical Personnel, a chief scientist in China's “Project 973”, 12 selected into theRecruitment Program of Global Experts, 4 selected into “10,000 Elites Program”, 5 selected asdistinguished professors of the Cheung Kong Scholars Program, one recipient ofthe Distinguished Teaching Award for Higher Education, 8 recipients of theNational Science Fund for Distinguished

Young Scholars, 8 selected into the Ten Thousand Talents Program, 5 listed inthe National Young Experts with Outstanding Contributions, 2 recipients of theNational Science Fund for Outstanding Young Scholars,13 selected into theProgram for New Century Excellent Talents by Ministry of Education, 116 expertsentitled to the State Council Special Allowance and 272 doctoral advisors. FZUalso has one team listed in the National Special Talents Advanced Group, 2teams selected into the Cheung Kong Scholars and Innovation Group Project” of MOE, 1 groups listed as a key subject innovation team of “Promotion Project for Innovation Talents”given by the ministry of Science and Technology. The University was listed instate “Higher Education International DemonstrationPromotion Plan” and “HighEducation School Subject Innovative Talents Introduction Project” (“111” Plan).

Fuzhou University currently has more than 24,000 undergraduatestudents and over 10,300 post-graduate students. Since founded, more than210,000 students have graduated from Fuzhou University, including full-timedoctoral and master’s degree students as well as bachelor’s and associate’s degree students. There arenow 2 National Talent Cultivation Bases, 7 National Experimental TeachingDemonstration Centers, 1 National Talent Cultivation Innovation Center, 7national distinctive majors, 3 National Comprehensive Subject Reform Projects,6 national college-enterprise cooperation engineering practice centers, 1 national-levelteaching group, 3 national top-quality courses, 1 national bilingualdemonstration courses, 3 national top-quality resource sharing courses, 2national top-quality video public courses, 4 series of teaching materials forthe national level “the Twelfth Five Year Plan”, 10 Provincial Postgraduate Education Innovation Bases, 11provincial professional degree postgraduate joint cultivation demonstrationbases. Fuzhou University is a reform pilot center of "Outstanding EngineerCultivation Project”, and an implementation center of “National University Student Innovation and Entrepreneurial TrainingProject”. Since the “theTwelfth Five-Year Plan”, Fuzhou University has 12majors obtained the international and national certification approved byEducation Department. Fuzhou University has won 19 Provincial teachingachievement prizes. Undergraduates have won 127 International-level competitionprizes, and 1340 national-level prizes. The employment rate of graduates fromFuzhou University has exceeded 95% for many consecutive years, putting theuniversity into the top 50 universities in China by graduate employment rate asof 2014. It has won 2 gold prizes 2 bronze prizes and continued to hold a postof "Advanced Group Award” in the 2nd China"Internet Plus" College Students Innovation and EntrepreneurshipFinals, and was listed in "the first batch of demonstration schooldeepening innovation and entrepreneurship education reform”.

Fuzhou University has a national-level university science park and11 national level and 74 provincial level science and technology innovationplatforms, among which are one National Key Laboratory, 7 National Engineering(Technology) Research Centers, 3 National-level International ScientificCooperation Bases, 5 National and Local Collaborative Engineering ResearchCenters (engineering laboratories), 3 MOE Key Laboratories, and 1 MOEEngineering Research Center. Since "the Twelfth Five-Year Plan",Fuzhou University has been granted for 6,252 technological projects and scientificresearch funds, amounting to RMB 1.631 billion. It has over 2,000 foreigntechnological cooperative contracts and the horizontal cooperation fund is over655 million. It has won 132 provincial or higher level achievements, of which 3have been in national major award categories for science and technology, andregistered 1,902 nationally authorized patents. 7,046 science and technologicalarticles are included in SCI, El, and ISTP journals. It is also the onlyuniversity in Fujian Province that has a “NationalUniversity Science Park” and a “National Technology Transfer Model Institution". The universityhas won many prizes including the “National TechnologyMarket Golden Bridge Award”, "NationalProduction-Study-Research Promotion Award" and the "National Production-Study-ResearchInnovation Award" as well as the "National Production-Study-ResearchInnovation Achievement Award” and the “Excellent Project Achievement Award”.

Fuzhou University has taken great efforts to develop cooperationand exchange, and has established collaborative relationships with renowneduniversities and institutes such as Tsinghua University, Peking University, andPeople’s University of China, as well as over 140universities and colleges in the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan,Germany, Italy, Canada, Australia as well as Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. Beingactive in developing Chinese and foreign scientific, educational, and culturalexchange, Fuzhou University is a recipient university of the Chinese GovernmentScholarship for international students, and now has opened for admissions ofinternational students from more than 30 countries. The university hasrecruited more than 50 foreign experts for long-term teaching, and hasestablished the first center for Western works in China, “the Library of the Western Belvedere”. Itnow has 3 Chinese-foreign cooperation programs, over 40 various long-term andshort-term visiting programs covering Bachelor’s,Master’s, and Doctor’s degree.Collaboration with institutions of Taiwan has been developed in depth and withgrowing scale. The university is now the key project university forFujian-Taiwan cooperation education under national reform. Fuzhou Universityhas become an important window for scientific, academic, educational and culturalexchanges for Fujian Province and Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao.

With the principle of developing a regionally distinctive andentrepreneurial university, Fuzhou University is striding towards the goal ofbuilding a competitive university in Southeastern China with advantageousmajors, research-oriented features, and an overall liberal approach toeducation. It is determined to make greater contributions to the country and tothe west coast of the Taiwan Strait Economic Zone.
